Crazy contouring? So last season.
The start to the new year is all about embracing your natural beauty with a little color here and there. Not only judging by the new products emerging for spring, but Allure confirms this minimalistic trend. If you follow that link, you will see a variety of runway looks. All have one thing in common: bare skin. Say goodbye to heavy foundation, it’s time to embrace your natural skin!
For me, this new trend is refreshing. I don’t know about you, but if I see one more cream contouring video tutorial on Instagram, I might lose it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about the bronzer and highlighter, but it is possible to apply these products in a natural looking way. The ultimate goal is fresh skin with a pop of color to spice up the look. This effortless makeup trend is not necessarily about attention to detail. It’s about smudging some cobalt blue shadow on your lids, a dab of pink blush on your cheeks, or a bright red on your lips. Basically, it’s just adding a little something extra to your natural self.
I am ready to embrace this new trend by feeling out the latest and greatest makeup coming out this season. The newest and ultra-trendy new line, Milk Makeup, is releasing February 8. Milk Makeup captures the idea of skincare as a first priority. Their entire line embodies this idea of effortless, on-the-go, edgy makeup. From their Lip + Cheek, to the Weekend Lash Stain, their products capture the notion that you don’t need to spend an hour putting on your face. With just a couple swipes and smudges, you’re ready for the day.
Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadow– The three colors from their spring line are Cressida (cobalt), Tarvos (light mint), and Kari (light rose). These three colors seriously speak to me… so gorgeous they can even be worn alone. Blue is a must-have eye shadow this season, especially rich, dark cobalts. If Sephora confirms it, then you know it’s true. A great advantage to the dual intensity shadows is that they can be worn wet or dry… perfect for adding something unexpected to your look.
Sephora Collection Colorful Shadow & Liner– I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again… shadow pencils are one of my favorite beauty products. You can smudge some in the corners of your eyes to brighten, or blend some on your eyelids for an easy shadow look. The possibilities are endless, and I guarantee you would use it more than you’d think. The Sephora shadow pencils are great because 1) they come in so many colors and 2) they are only 14 bucks for a quality Sephora brand product.
Milk Makeup Shadow Liner– My favorite thing about their shadow liner is the shape. It can be used to create flawless eyeliner, or it can be used as an all over shadow when flipped. I love how this product makes it ok to not to be precise or exact. Easily swiping on some color can create a pretty and modern edgy look. Note: The shade “hustler” is that coveted shade of cobalt blue this season. Check it out.
Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer– I love this stuff… you can never apply it wrong! There’s only two simple steps: sweep it under your cheekbones and blend. No matter how you apply it, the bronzer will always blend seamlessly into your complexion to create an instant natural tan.
NYX Cosmetics Whipped Lip and Cheek Souffle– So when you have your natural face makeup lookin’ fresh… it’s time to add that pop of color. This stuff will do the job. Rosy blushes are quite popular this spring, so I would suggest trying the “Pink Cloud” shade. I’m also really into berry colors, so I also like the “Berry Tea” color. Using one of these colors on both your lips and cheeks will definitely give a little extra something to your natural look.
Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil– Recently became obsessed with this product. I’m all for hydrating and giving my skin an extra glow… and this does both of those things. This delightfully smelling oil will rejuvenate any part of your face and skin. I personally like to apply some to my cheekbones for the perfect, natural looking sheen.
Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick– I’m all for lip pencils. As far as lips go.. having a precise application is a must. Nothing is worse than smudgy, dark lipstick… nothing. This Neutrogena pencil comes in a variety of shades from nudes, to berries, to reds. The pencil tip will allow you to line and fill in your lips with just one product. Plus its only around 9 dollars… what a steal.
Nars Cruella Velvet Matte Lip Pencil– One of the only red lip colors I wear… and I genuinely think it looks good on essentially anyone. If you received your birthday gift from Sephora last year, then you probably have this color (the birthday set also included the Rikuguen shade… also a classic). The rich scarlet red adds the perfect amount of drama to a bare face and some mascara. My favorite part about a great red lipstick is that I feel like I could wear it anytime of the day to add an unexpected dynamic to your look.
Congratulations, now you know the basics on the edgy, on-the-go, minimalistic makeup trend. Time to get shopping.
Until next week,
Alex B. ♥
